Background of the Study

Women in the workforce face unique occupational health challenges due to physiological, social, and economic factors. Occupational health risks such as exposure to hazardous chemicals, ergonomic strain, and workplace discrimination can have significant implications for female workers’ well-being. Additionally, women in physically demanding jobs, such as manufacturing and healthcare, may experience heightened risks of musculoskeletal disorders, fatigue, and stress-related illnesses (Adebisi & Ibrahim, 2023).

In Kwara State, female workers are actively involved in diverse industries, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and commerce. However, their occupational health concerns are often overlooked, leading to inadequate workplace policies and interventions. This study seeks to assess the occupational health challenges faced by female workers in Kwara State, examining the extent of these challenges and possible solutions.

Statement of the Problem

While workplace safety is a general concern, female workers often encounter gender-specific health risks that are not adequately addressed in occupational policies. Issues such as reproductive health hazards, workplace harassment, and inadequate maternity support remain prevalent. Many workplaces fail to provide ergonomically suitable workspaces, leading to increased physical strain for female employees. This study aims to evaluate the specific occupational health risks faced by women in Kwara State and identify ways to improve workplace conditions.

Objectives of the Study

1. To identify the major occupational health challenges faced by female workers in Kwara State.

2. To assess the impact of these challenges on their physical and mental well-being.

3. To evaluate workplace policies addressing female occupational health concerns.

4. To recommend strategies for improving workplace health conditions for female workers.

Research Questions

1. What are the key occupational health challenges faced by female workers in Kwara State?

2. How do these challenges affect their productivity and well-being?

3. What policies are in place to address female occupational health concerns?

4. What measures can be taken to improve occupational health for women in Kwara State?

Research Hypotheses

1. Female workers in physically demanding jobs experience higher rates of musculoskeletal disorders.

2. Workplaces with inadequate health policies have a higher prevalence of stress and occupational illnesses among female workers.

3. Improved occupational health policies lead to better well-being and productivity among female workers.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study will focus on female workers across various industries in Kwara State. Data will be collected through surveys and interviews. Limitations may include reluctance from respondents to discuss gender-specific workplace challenges.

Definitions of Terms
